Allow Yourself To Break Up With Drama

Yoga invites us to break up with drama. Nearly no one admits that they are addicted to drama, and yet, most of us kind of are. Our world thrives on it, entertains us with it, and models it to us as something at least semi-desirable.  In short, we’re conditioned to a ‘drama response’ whether it is how we prefer to function or not. In yoga, we are dissolving patterns that no longer serve us. And trust me Sis, a ton of drama doesn’t serve you well at all. If anything, it predisposes us to knee-jerk reactions, overreactions, and impulsively cementing the patterns that we’re trying to let go of. Set a conscious intention to break up with drama.

Notice The Energetic Response

There is a time and place for everything. Energetically, our goal is to call all layers of self into alignment. *Notice the energetic response to breaking up with drama. As with any breakup, breaking up with drama creates a period of settling.  Simply put, when we’re used to the presence of anything in our lives, its initial absence creates feelings that are both positive and negative.  The thing is, drama is a very kinetic energy that takes time to cycle off of. Internal and external drama create excess. Consciously, it’s not serving us well, but subconsciously we may enjoy the ‘high’ of it. At first, life may not seem as exciting, but ultimately, it is much more peaceful. This is serenity. By staying mindful of your commitment to intentional balance, we learn to cycle down from drama in a systematic way. Explore and embrace your whole self with loving-kindness.

Within You

Through yoga practice, we recognize that there is an interplay between The 7 Chakras and You. This living micro eco-system of energy is commonly used to explore, witness, and work with self in many beneficial ways. Before we hone in on the energy, let’s take the conscious mind on a quick, contemplative journey:

  • What role does drama play in your mind, body, and energy? How does it manifest when you’re producing and coping with your own thoughts, actions, and focus? What do you love about it? Are there specific instances where you already want to experience a change?

In Relationships

As energetic beings, we are microcosms of a macrocosm. As such, everyone we know and interact with is a mirror back into ourselves. Thus, what we attract around us is usually indicative of what is within us, and sometimes we excessively leak things out in abundance before we realize that it’s even happening. No worries! Energy leaks simply call for a little virtuous observance. Invite your western mind to circle back to the Niyama of  Svadyaya (Self-study). IMO, it’s an excellent place to start.

  • What role does drama play in your relationships? Where does it come from? What does it look like in different relationships? In what ways is it serving you? How could you benefit from some changes?

Seek Balance In The Sacral Chakra

In yoga, we draw our attention to the sacral chakra if drama is playing too big a part in our lives. This is the home of “I feel” where we consider and live out our ideas about self-gratification, Chakra theory teaches that Svadisthana (The Sacral Chakra) encompasses our formative development between the ages of 8-14.  An overactive sacral chakra is seen as the culprit area of interest when we’re too tuned in to the drama of our feels. By turning our awareness to this area of our growth and development, we heal what is, by nurturing it back into balance. On Your Mat

As we work to free ourselves from excess and energy leaks we can practice mindfulness more effectively. In this way, our yoga transcends the mat and brings our layers of life into full circle balance. Additionally, we begin to experience our lives in the now.  In doing so, our life becomes a journey that we are actively living with acceptance, insight, and intention. It’s a deeply nourishing and healing process. Each step is an opportunity to heal the initial narratives of the past and to co-create with the universe in rewriting our foundation more accurately for the present.  As a result, we edge away from conditioned action and reaction toward integrated authenticity instead. Enjoy the ride.
