Human-Nature: The Things We Share.

Human-Nature: The things we share. Shockingly, we humans aren’t separate from the world around us. We’re an integral part of it.  Humans and nature share many similarities, from the building blocks that make us up, to our need for clean air, water, and food. We have a natural circadian rhythm that is influenced by the cycles of nature. This  innate connection to it brings us peace and solace in many ways. Like animals and plants, we have the ability to adapt to our environment. Most pointedly, we are subject to the laws of nature. We seek out beauty in both the human-made and natural world.  Our symbiotic relationship with nature means we rely on it for resources while it relies on us to protect and preserve it.

Human-Nature

It is not necessarily human nature to discount other natural organisms. Although, it is a common behavior that can be observed in many human societies, especially today. This behavior may be the result of cultural and societal influences, such as a belief in human exceptionalism or a lack of understanding and appreciation for the interconnectedness of all living beings. However, it is important to recognize that all living organisms play an important role in the natural world. All are essential to the health and well-being of ecosystems. By valuing and respecting the diversity of life on Earth, we can better appreciate the beauty and complexity of the natural world. Then, we can work towards protecting and preserving it for future generations. Yogic Orientation

For yogis, living a nature-conscious existence offers many benefits. It promotes mindfulness, physical activity, mental clarity, and a sense of community. In that community, we connect with like-minded individuals who share a similar interest in environmentalism and sustainability. Living in harmony with nature also encourages sustainable practices, enhances spiritual growth, teaches patience, fosters creativity, and promotes self-sufficiency. It helps yogis develop a greater appreciation for the beauty and abundance of the natural world. Thus, fostering a sense of gratitude and connectedness. Overall, living a nature-conscious existence is not only good for the environment and other living beings, but also for our own well-being and personal growth as yogis.

Natural Symbiosis

There are several natural symbiotic relationships between humans and nature that make it possible for us to exist and live our lives. By drawing our attention to these symbiotic relationships, we strengthen the human-nature bond.  At a glance, these include:

  1. Air and Oxygen
    • Humans need clean air to breathe, and plants produce oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis. Obviously, this symbiotic relationship ensures that humans have the air they need to survive. Meanwhile, plants have the carbon dioxide they need to grow.
  2. Water and Hydrologic Cycle
    • Water is essential to life, and the hydrologic cycle ensures that water is constantly being replenished and recycled in the environment. Fundamentally, humans rely on this cycle to provide clean water for drinking, cooking, and washing.
  3. Food and Soil
    • Soil is the foundation for all life on Earth, providing the nutrients that plants need to grow. Humans rely on plants and other organisms for food, and the health of the soil directly impacts the quality and quantity of our food.
  4. Climate and Weather
    • The Earth’s climate and weather patterns are essential to maintaining a stable environment for human habitation. Basically, this includes the regulation of temperature, precipitation, and other weather patterns that impact our daily lives.

In summary, we serve ourselves best in noticing these intricacies. Through honoring these natural symbiotic relationships, we can adopt sustainable practices that help to protect and preserve the environment. Besides reducing our carbon footprint, conserving water, using renewable energy sources, and supporting sustainable agriculture and forestry practices, there are opportunities for continued healing. Next, we can also work to restore and protect natural habitats and biodiversity, which can help to maintain the natural symbiotic relationships that support our lives. Human-Nature gives us an opportunity to learn, evolve, and grow. Our actions can have a significant impact on the environment and other living beings, and we have a natural desire to explore and discover, just like animals and plants in nature. For now, sink into your relationship with the natural world around you and see how it works altogether.
