Only 10 Percent of My Yoga Practice Takes Place in the Studio

It’s true, only 10 percent of my yoga practice takes place in the studio, how about you? Have you ever felt like you weren’t doing enough yoga because you weren’t going to the studio every day? Well, let me tell you, you’re not alone. But don’t worry, I’m not just sitting on the couch eating chips and watching Netflix (although, I do love a good Netflix binge). My yoga practice has taken on a life of its own outside of the studio, and I’m here to share with you how I live my yogic principles in my daily life, to help you better understand what works best for you.

“Asana is just one limb of the eight-limbed path.

It’s important to also live your yoga when you’re off the mat.”

This is Me

Over here, living MY Yoga & Embracing The Householder’s Path as I explore all the things that really feel me with joy in this season of my life. As of late, I’m taking more walks, prepping the garden for warmer weather, and lovin’ on my fur babies every chance I get. BUUUT, it’s all yoga & here’s how I make that happen in my life:

Guided Meditation

First up, guided meditation makes up 10 percent of my practice. Starting my day with some quiet time to focus on my breath and center myself is essential. It helps me approach the day with a clear mind and positive energy.

Journaling

Next, journaling is also 10 percent of my practice. Writing down my thoughts and feelings is incredibly therapeutic. It’s a way to release negative energy and reflect on my experiences. Plus, it helps me keep track of my progress and set intentions for the future.

Asana

Asana, the physical practice of yoga, is also 10 percent of my practice. I love hitting the mat and moving my body, but I also know that yoga is so much more than just the physical poses. That’s why I make sure to balance my physical practice with other aspects of yoga.

Mindful Living

Mindful living is a whopping 25 percent of my practice. I try to bring the principles of yoga into every aspect of my life. Practicing kindness, compassion, and non-judgment in my relationships and interactions with others. Being present in each moment and living mindfully.

Self-Study

Self-study (svadhyaya) is another 10 percent of my practice. This involves taking the time to learn more about yoga and deepen my understanding of the practice. Whether it’s reading books, attending workshops, or listening to podcasts, I’m always trying to expand my knowledge.

Losing My Marbles

And finally, we come to the last 35 percent of my practice – losing my marbles. Yes, you read that right. ‘Cause it’s real… Losing my marbles is a crucial part of my yoga practice. Sometimes, you just need to let loose and have a little fun! Dancing around my living room, singing at the top of my lungs, or laughing until I cry – I make sure to incorporate a healthy dose of silliness into my practice. So, there you have it, friends. My yoga practice may not be the typical studio experience 24/7, but it works for me. Only 10 percent of my yoga practice takes place in the studio, because I live abundantly, in multiple directions! More importantly, it’s sustainable this way.

Find what works for you and make your practice your own!

Remember, yoga is so much more than what takes place on the mat. It’s a way of life. So, whether you’re hitting the studio every day or practicing in your living room like me, keep living those yogic principles and spreading that positive energy.
