In every yoga class, we run a basic systems check, right? Sinking into the body, checking in with the mind, emotions, energy, and breath. Well, our yoga businesses require the same kind of TLC. Systems are important. They look different in the office than they do on the mat, but both are designed to ensure that everything is running smoothly. As business owners, our job is to notice and course-correct as necessary.
Energy Flows Where Attention Goes
If you’re getting frustrated, chances are, there is a system somewhere that needs some love. Maybe, and it’s okay to admit, there isn’t a system in place that it needs to be at all. Grounded in center, we look at what is, and set ourselves up for success by taking the time that it takes to get things running smoothly. Then, that particular system will flow properly, and we can turn our attention elsewhere. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be complicated or cost any money at all to get you going in the right direction. First, take stock in what you already have available to you.
What Is Your Systematic Approach?
Do you have forms, procedures, and templates that you guide your business from? Is there a process for how you share that information with customers, peers, and yourself when you need to? If I asked you to show me a copy right now, could you? There’s nothing wrong if the answer is no, but I’ll be honest, you’re holding yourself back. Inherently, you need to know how you run things, and how to efficiently communicate that with partners, collaborators, and any employees that you may have now, or intend to have in the future. More and more, I’m noticing providers using Google Drive for tracking, filing, and sharing with vendors and customers for streamlined ease of use. If you’re looking to start organizing your yoga business, check this out and see if its right for you.
Maintenance
Just like all the systems that already we’re familiar with, each one provides us with something vital. We need to schedule time on either a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis to check back in and provide maintenance. The great thing about systems is that once they’re in place, they make our day-to-day lives easy. We’re not supposed to be stressed out while we’re out in the world spouting off all things zen. Ease of use is the best way to go. Don’t underestimate yourself either, maybe you’ve learned something new since the last time a particular aspect of your business was front and center in your stream of consciousness. Invite that wonderful wisdom full circle into your life and let it start working for you.
To sum it up, you not only need systems in place, but you also serve yourself best when you’re scheduling a routine systems check. Now, before you go feeling all overwhelmed again, take a breath. Decide, what is the next step?
Take it one thing at a time.
Mindfully.
