When Things Don’t Work Out

It’s time that we really accept that it’s okay when things don’t work out. Like most American mothers, I begin each day with a plan. I balance, direct, consider, streamline, and guide each thread of my life forward with consideration, and positivity. Most days, this is the only way I have a shred of potential to achieve “balance”. The thing is; life happens on it’s own terms.  Despite all of my beautifully laid plans, it doesn’t always go the way that I’d wanted, anticipated or planned. If you, like me, fall into a habit of getting bummed when this happens, let’s revisit all the beautiful reasons that we need to keep our chins up.

More Than the Naked Eye Sees

There is more to missteps and mishaps than the naked eye sees. Let downs, failures, and even disasters are synchronistically building around us, shaping us, and steering us towards destiny. I’ll admit, that may not make it feel any better in the moment, but it does make it worth it in the end. When we can trust that we can’t control life and don’t always know best, we can relax a little more into what is. Sometimes, failure is the opportunity that we didn’t realize we were looking for. Missteps can be blessings in disguise, and disasters often lead us upward and onward to pivotal transformations. Have faith that despite any unanticipated turns in the road, you are on the right path.

“In every moment, the Universe is whispering to you.

You’re constantly surrounded by signs, coincidences, and synchronicities ,

all aimed at propelling you in the direction of your destiny.”

-Denise Linn

When Things Don’t Work Out

  1. Take a moment to embrace the moment.
  2. Fail gracefully and look for the lesson.
  3. Accept that synchronicity is subtle.
  4. Learn what there is to learn.
  5. Meditate on where to go from here.

“At various points in our lives, or on a quest, and for reasons that often remain obscure,

we are driven to make decisions which prove with hindsight to be loaded with meaning. (225)”

― Sri S. Satchidananda, The Yoga Sutras
