7 Savvy Tips To All The Materials You Need
-
Library
- Libraries are still an incredible go-to source for cozying up with your next favorite read. If you haven’t been to yours in a while, dust off that library card and pay them a visit. I bet it only takes seconds to remember why you used to LOVE the library and wonder, “why haven’t I been here in so long?” It’s all free, and they let you borrow books to take home = you get to immerse yourself in the book without worry about how you’ll store it in the long haul. #minimalism
-
Ask Your Peers
- Chat with your friends and family about what they’ve been reading and loving lately. You know how it is, the second that someone gives you space to talk about your favorite book, YOU JUST LIGHT UP … well, give them an opportunity to do that. If you find a recommendation that resonates with you, most people are happy to let you borrow it so that you can chat all about it again later.
-
Join a Bookclub
- Have you ever walked out of a book sale with armloads of books, immediately wondering when the heck you’re actually going to read them?! If so, even the best intentions for your next several reads can get stunted. Reading with a group of people is a fun opportunity to not just carve out the time and space for reading, but with a built-in network to converse and share with about it.
-
Thrift Stores
- Fun Fact: most thrift stores have really big, quality book selections, at a mere fraction of the retail price. While this isn’t a huge help when you’re looking for something very specific, it IS a fun little treasure hunt. You’d be surprised by how many books will synchronistically reach out to you this way. The next time you’re dropping off donations, take a tour of the thrifty book section.
-
Kindle Unlimited
- Tap into what’s available for free to you with the subscriptions that you already have. Kindle Unlimited offers subscribers access to SO many books, both old and new, that if you’re already a member, I guarantee you can find scads of books without spending another penny. Most avid readers have this service, and WAY underuse it. Get what you’re already paying for Momma.
-
Free on Audible
- Audible subscribers get access to a ton of free audiobooks, without spending an additional credit. In this busy life, finding the time and space to read can be challenging but with audiobooks, it’s just like having a friend tell you a story in your ear. My go-to time for listening is while I’m cleaning the house or taking a long drive. Imagine how many of those books on your to-read-list could be conquered if you allowed someone else to read them to you!!!

Compare Bookstore & Online Retailer pricing
- As much as I love spending hours in the stacks of large retailer book suppliers (because I mean, what isn’t to love about it), it isn’t always sensical to purchase every selection that I’ve fallen in love with. However, if there are 2 or 3 (okay, or maybe 10) that you aren’t going to buy at that moment but don’t want to lose awareness of: take a pic and then compare pricing. Just because you’re there, doesn’t mean that you have to impulsively overspend. Additionally, you can pause that insta-love long enough to check in with yourself. 1) What is it that you’re so excited that book can offer you? 2) Can you access this book for free with an existing subscription? And, 3) Is it time to send that text to your yoga pal and see if she’ll let you borrow her copy?
We’re Mindful; Remember?
Don’t get it twisted, I could live beneath a mountain of books and be happy as a clam, but… the books, and me, deserve more than that. And so do you. It’s okay. When a bibliophile marries self-study, we simply need to stay aware of tips for saving on self-study materials. Remember, it’s not the actual book that changes anything; it’s how the message of each book resonates in your soul. So, swap, talk and club it up with full awareness of all available freebies. Keep the knowledge rotating not just within you, but in the synergy of your community as well.
Happy Reading!
