It’s Not About Love, It’s About Living

It’s Not About Love, It’s About Living, and that’s the only reason that I ever started working out. Today, I’m opening up about a personal truth: I don’t love working out. There, I said it! While many can’t wait to hit the gym, my enthusiasm for routine exercise has always been, well, lukewarm at best. But here’s the twist: I work out diligently, and here’s why.

The Late Bloomer’s Realization

For years, I sidestepped regular exercise, preferring almost any other activity. It wasn’t until my late 30s that a crucial realization hit me—I needed to start. Not because of societal pressure or fleeting trends, but because I recognized the essential role of physical activity in supporting not just my health, but my entire lifestyle.

Building My Life’s Scaffolding

Physical, mental, and emotional well-being are the scaffolding for a fulfilling life, especially as we approach new seasons of life. For me, embracing fitness was less about the act of exercising and more about ensuring I could continue enjoying everything else I love with vitality and strength.

Functional Fitness: A Means to an End

Truth be told, if you ask me if I enjoy my workouts, the answer is still no. But do I love gardening like it’s my full-time job? Absolutely. Do I relish the freedom to hike whenever I choose? Without a doubt. These passions require energy, strength, and endurance—qualities that, quite frankly, don’t maintain themselves.

Workout to Live, Don’t Live to Workout

My fitness regime is tailored not around the love of the gym but around a love for life’s various activities. Each squat, press, and mile I run builds a foundation that supports everything else I do. I work out so I can live vigorously, meeting the daily demands of life with a zest that only physical fitness can sustain.

A Fraction of Possibility

I might not love the process, but I cherish the possibilities it affords me: more energy, better health, and the ability to do the things I love with gusto. This is why I keep pushing through each session, keeping my eyes on the prize—a well-lived life.

So, to everyone out there who feels the same, know that you’re not alone. Fitness doesn’t have to be about loving the workout; it can be about loving what the workout allows you to do. Keep moving, keep striving, and let’s continue supporting each other in living our best lives, one rep at a time.
